Monica Paul

Monica M. Paul was born April 1, 1977 to Joanne and Lionel Paul.  She was born and raised in Montclair, New Jersey and lived most of her life on Maple Ave.

As a child she attended the Neighborhood Child Care Center where her two children Noah and Essence later attended. She grew up in the Montclair public school system attending Nishuane School, Hillside Elementary School, Glenfield Middle School, and Montclair High School, where she graduated in 1995.

As a young woman, Monica was blessed with her first child Essence Duckett.  Through Essence, she experienced and the joys of motherhood and the bond that only a mother and child share. She worked diligently to provide a stable home for her child. Soon to follow was her son, her pride and joy Noah aka “Spider Man;” a name he acquired because of his admiration for the qualities and the “powers” of Spider Man.

Monica made it her mission to educate her children and to make them well rounded individuals. Her children were active participants in many after school programs and extra curricular activities.

She groomed Essence to represent strength and diligence; she taught her how to be a lady. She encouraged Noah to be creative and adventurous; she wanted him to be a strong boy.

One of the most important things that she constantly instilled in her two children was love for each other and family. Monica was exceptionally close to her family; particularly close with her two older cousins James and Greg Paul; the three were inseparable. Family meant a lot to her. Monica and her children were always at family gatherings; whether it was for barbecues in Greg’s backyard, birthday parties, or graduations she was there without fail with a smile on her face and two children on her arms.

She also had an eclectic sense of food, Monica was always known for her curry chicken and oxtails.  That was always one of the highlights of family functions, “What’s Monica going to cook?”

She was also a confidant and a big sister to many. Through her personal struggles in life she gained wisdom; insight that she used to educate and enlighten those around her.

She exemplified strength and decisiveness; Monica was a woman filled with elegance, poise and most of all love.
